The UP Open University will celebrate its 16th Founding Anniversary with the theme, “Learners in the Digital Age: Knowledge Creation Using Web Technologies” on February 28 to March 4, 2011 at the UPOU Headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna. This will be a week-long celebration which will incorporate the celebration of International Women's Month and the opening of the International Year of the Forests.

On February 28, the first UPOU Student Forum and Poster Presentation will be held at the UPOU Centennial Center for Digital Learning. Selected students will be presenting papers and posters on their experiences as distance learners at UPOU. Alongside this, the Anniversary exhibit will feature different multimedia resources from the university and its students, and the photo competition entries.  The UPOU Learner's Hall will be inaugurated, and the day's celebration will end with the Anniversary Program and a dinner party for the UPOU partners.

UP President-Elect Alfred E. Pascual will grace the event and deliver the key note speech for the Anniversary program.

Throughout the week, there will be an open house, film showing, forum on Magna Carta for Women, launch of the Digital Literacy for Women Campaign, launch of the International Year of the Forests, Fun Run and Wellness Program. The entire week of celebration will culminate with the UPOU Service Awards.

The UP Open University will celebrate its 15th anniversary on 23 February 2010 at the Centennial Center for Digital Learning (CCDL) Auditorium, UPOU Headquarters, Los Baños, Laguna with the theme “OPEN UP: UPOU@15”.

Highlights of the celebration include an exhibit featuring the evolution of distance education at UPOU in the last 15 years; the launching of the UPOU Networks, an online network producing, programming and delivering scholarly productions through the Web; and an international forum on the six sub-themes that comprise the anniversary theme, namely: 

Openness in education
Pedagogies for a digital age
E-learning and transnational education
Networks in open and distance learning
Universal access
Public service in an open university 


The UP Open University Master of Distance Education Program and the UPOU Foundation Inc. are organizing a Seminar on Planning and Managing Distance Education for education and training managers, administrators, faculty, and trainers who are tasked with developing and implementing a distance education and/or online learning program. The four-hour seminar will cover key elements and principles of distance education (DE), DE generations and models, and the systems approach to DE planning and management.

The seminar will be held on 22 February 2009 at the UPOU headquarters in Los Banos, Laguna. The seminar fee is Php 1,200.00, exclusive of transportation and accommodations.
